Former Decatur resident, Marvin "Dusty" Cook, Jr., died peacefully in his sleep Friday, January 27th, 2012 in St Louis MO. He was 88 years old. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 beginning at 10 am immediately followed by a funeral service at 11 am at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Burial will be at Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL with full military honors. Dusty was born May 17, 1923 in Springfield, IL, the son of Marvin "Jack" and Lucille (Fritz) Cook. Dusty was twice widowed. Wives, Jean L. Cheney and Mabel E. Hall preceded him in death. Mr. Cook was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart on June 22, 1944. Mr. Cook worked at A.E. Staley Mfg. Co for 37 years where he was a supervisor in the oil refinery. He enjoyed retirement starting in 1983. He was active in many organizations both in Decatur and in Largo, FL. Surviving are Dusty's three daughters: Martha (Craig) Peters, Mary Mills and Melissa Cook. Dusty had four grandchildren: Scott (Stephanie Toering) Peters, Ben (Kari Peterson) Mills, Jen Mills and Claire Cook. In addition he was blessed with three great-grandchildren: Keithen Williams, Abigail Peters and Katherine Peters. Dusty is also survived by his devoted sister and brother, Jackie Brinkoetter and Alan (Pat) Cook along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Dusty was also lucky to have an extended family by marriage surviving him as well including step-daughter Barbara (Arthur) Karpas, grandchildren Beth McCoy, Jamie Ruhl, Jesse Karpas, Joel Karpas, Heather Bultman, Tom Hall, Tyler Hall and great-grandchildren, Natalie Ruhl, Caitlyn Cottingham and Novalee Bultman.
