Marian Cross

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 4 to 7 P.M., Monday, January 3, and one hour prior to service time on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church or McKinley Court Care Center.Marian was born November 1, 1914, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Herman O. and Mattie (Graves) Bennett. She married Melvin Wayne Cross on September 13, 1940 in Decatur, IL. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1998.Marian was a member of Central Christian Church. She was a 1934 graduate of Decatur High School and later worked as head cook at Stephen Decatur High School until her retirement. She was a member of Keystone Sunday School Class, enjoyed quilting, canning, baking and sharing her baked goods with neighbors and friends. Marian loved listening to Gaither Gospel Music.She is survived by her son Donn Cross and wife Dianna of Decatur, IL; daughter Cynthia Cross of Decatur, IL; grandson Douglas Cross and wife Angela of Cerro Gordo, IL; great grandchildren Kayla, Genna and Jessa; and her beloved cat Abby.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, sisters Margaret Ashe and Betty Gaither; and an infant brother.The family would like to give special thanks to the McKinley Court Care Center staff for their care and compassion given to Marian.
