Margaret Leonard

Margaret Clare Leonard, 76, of Niantic, passed away Monday, November 23, 2015 at St.Mary’s-Mayo Clinic Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota of renal cancer. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 29 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 30 at Resurrection Catholic Church, Illiopolis, Illinois. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Illiopolis. Margaret was born April 7, 1939 in Decatur, the daughter of Bernard and Margaret Walsh Donovan. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield and St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur from 1962 to 1979. She married Edward H. Leonard, Sr. on February 11, 1978. Margaret was an active member of the Macon County HCE, PEO Chapter GR, Decatur branch of AAUW and St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary. She was currently serving on the HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Advisory Counsel, Illinois Board of Environmental Health Practitioners, and Macon County Board of Health and served as Niantic Township Trustee since 1983. She was an avid world traveler, having visited over 45 countries. A devoted Catholic, Margaret lived a faith-filled life. Margaret is survived by her husband; her daughter, Anna M. Leonard (Matthew Rogina) of Riverside, Illinois; her son, Edward H. Leonard, Jr. (Katie) of Niantic; her sister Alice Boylan (Robert) of Hammond; her brother Bernard T. Donovan (Joyce) of Decatur. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Annamary Feeney. Memorials may be made to Resurrection Catholic Church, Illiopolis and Macon County HCE Scholarship Fund (Macon Co. U of I Ext.
