Margaret Davenport

May 16, 1917 — August 18, 2011

Visitation: No visitation details available at this time. Funeral: No funeral details available at this time. Margaret Louise Davenport of Argenta, IL, died Thursday, August 18, 2011. Louise Long was born on a farm near Kenney in DeWitt Co., IL on May 16, 1917, the only daughter of William Fain Long and Martha Jane Biggers. Louise attended rural Macon County schools, was a 1934 graduate of Argenta High School, and attended Illinois State University. Louise retired from Gerber State Bank of Argenta, where she had worked many years. She married Lynn Davenport (also AHS 34) on February 6, 1938 and lived on the family farm located in the vibrant Chariton School-Shiloh Church neighborhood north of Argenta. Among her favorite projects was the Argenta Public Library. She was proud to be connected with this library and most anything to do with books. Surviving are sons Roger Nathan (Diane) Davenport of St. Louis, Cameron Kirk Davenport of Springfield, and daughter Tierney Elise Davenport from Seattle; grandchildren Jeremy Noel and Lora Jane, both living in New Orleans; Noel Guthrie and Elise Louise of Seattle, and Nathan Lynn of New York; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by her husband Lynn, her parents Fain and Martha, and her brothers Donald, John, and Carroll Long. Instead of flowers (which have always grown so abundantly and beautifully in her garden), Louise and her family hope a tribute might be a gift to DMH Hospice, St. Jude Children's Hospital or to the Argenta Public Library. At her request, there will be no services. A family celebration will be held at a later date. "
