Lorn L. Handley, 80, of Cerro Gordo, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 26, 2024.
Visitation will be 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM, Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lorn’s honor may be made to the Cerro Gordo Township Cemeteries.
Lorn was born June 15, 1944 in Vandalia, IL, the son of Kenneth W. Handley, Sr. and Laura E. (Meyerholz) Handley. He married Kathryn E. Merritt on March 17, 1965. They were known around town as the “Happy Handley’s”. Lorn was a Teamster and truck driver for over 30 years. Kathy and Lorn owned and operated the True Value Hardware Store in Cerro Gordo for 15 years. Lorn’s passion was farming, he grew up helping his father on the farm and took over for many years before he fully retired. In later years during the fall, he was drawn to the fields and enjoyed helping his nephews during harvest. Lorn was a long time Cubs fan and followed Illini men’s basketball. He enjoyed watching his grandkids and great grandkids participate in many activities.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Kathryn; daughter, Teresa Y. Beldock of Oakley; brother, Kenneth “Wayne” (Mary) Handley, Jr.;sister, Lana (Tom) Miller of Beecher City; grandchildren: Robert Weaver of Cerro Gordo, Brittany Wright of Oakley, Timothy (Sara) Weaver of Oakley, Maddison Handley of Merritt Island, FL, Skyler (Alexa) Henderson of Mount Prospect, and Brooke N. Beldock of Decatur; great grandchildren: Owen, Audrina, and Natalie Wright, Peyton Weaver, Blaize and Aniah Hoyt; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.
Lorn was preceded in death by his parents; son, Galen C. Handley and son-in-law, Richard A. Beldock.
Lorn’s family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the HSHS Home Care team and Dr. Jatoi who took wonderful care of Lorn on his journey to meet the Lord.
