Mr. Lipe was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII and Korea. He was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church,former 4th degree Knights of Columbus, a member of the Decatur V.F.W. Post, and the Golden K. He was retired from the City of Decatur where he served as the city treasurer and as a city accountant. He formerly worked at Stills Electric, and Decatur Refrigeration.Upon retirement Les and Bernie enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Seminole, Florida where they volunteered at the local veterans hospital. Les served for many years as the president of the Majestic Homes Park Association. Les was an avid bowler and was at one time the Chicago City League Champion. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 5-8p.m. at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home with a Wake service at 4:30 P.M., an Honor Guard will be provided by 4th degree Assembly # 211. Mass of Resurrection Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church, Father Jeff Grant presiding. Private graveside services will be conducted at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home are handling the arrangements. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
