Leona D. Brown, 95, of Decatur, IL, formerly of Stonington, IL, died 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Decatur Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Old Stonington Cemetery, Stonington, Illinois. Mrs. Brown was born in Dunkirk, KS April 11,1917, daughter of Desire & Gertrude (Spence) Besson. She married I. Rex Brown July 25, 1939 in St. Charles, MO. He preceded her in death on September 15, 1995. Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Stonington High School. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a secretary to the principal and superintendent of Stonington Unit Schools. She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Leona was an excellent cook, enjoyed traveling and loved spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are her daughters Sharon K. Benson and husband Robert of Lodi, WI, and Jeanne C. England of Decatur, IL; grandchildren Cheri Koether and husband Thomas of Canton, GA, Kimberly Allen of Trevor, WI, Michelle McGrath and husband Michael of Lanesville, IN, and Mark Mollohan and wife Erin of Lake Zurich, IL; step-granddaughter Keli Coutu and husband Jeff of Romulus, MI; great-grandchildren Catie Koether of Canton, GA, Andrew, Emily and William Allen of Trevor, WI, Lauren, Allison, and Brooke McGrath of Lanesville, IN, and Katherine Mollohan of Lake Zurich, IL; sisters-in-law Faye Swanson of Silver City, NM, and Ina Griffin of Taylorville. Also surviving is nephew Barry Dennis and wife Brenda of Taylorville, IL, and many other nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband I. Rex Brown, grandson Dr. Michael S. Allen, and sister Lois Dennis. Memorials may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church or DMH Hospice. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the nursing staff on 5100 at Decatur Memorial Hospital for their kindness, and nursing to our mother. "
