Leon Funkhouser, 86, of Decatur, IL, died 5:55 P.M., Thursday, February 28, 2013, at his residence. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 5, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 8 P.M., Monday, March 4, at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, will be handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Decatur Memorial Hospice or Alzheimer's Association. Leon was born October 30, 1926 in Decatur, IL, the son of Curtis and Nova (Likins) Funkhouser. He married Phyllis Drum on August 25, 1950 in Decatur, IL. Leon worked first at Young's Packing Company, then at Butternut Bread Company as a salesman, retiring in 1989. He was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, and had been lucky to celebrate Cubs winning games occasionally with Harry Caray, long-time Cubs announcer, at various locations around Wrigley Field. Leon was also an avid golfer, and scored one Hole-In-One at Nelson Park golf course.. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis of Decatur, IL; children Mrs. Lyn (Rocky) Larry, Mrs. Sue (Chuck) Durbin, Mr. Curtis Funkhouser, Mrs. Kay (Jeff) Merritt, Doug (Becky) Funkhouser, all of Decatur, IL; sister: Mrs. Elaine (Dr. Robert) Hazen; and one niece: Terri Blount, all of Prairie Village, KS; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother. "
