Lela Mae McDaniel, 95, of Decatur, died peacefully at 9:45 a.m. on February 7, 2018.Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, February 12, 2018 at Grace United Methodist Church with visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 at the church. Inurnment will be in Quincy Memorial Park, Quincy, IL. Lela was born July 18, 1922, the daughter of Fred and Dora (Tess) Loper. She married Kenneth J. McDaniel of Wyoming, Illinois on December 27, 1944 in Peoria, Illinois. Lela graduated from Wyoming High School in Wyoming, Illinois, and attended Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. She taught school for five years.Ken’s work took Lela and family to several locations including Quincy, Illinois; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Denver, Colorado; and Dallas and Houston, Texas, before retiring in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and finally Decatur.Lela was a volunteer in many organizations, an avid golfer, loved watching sports of all kinds, and a die-hard Cubs fan for 90 years. She loved her family and was so interested in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.She is survived by daughter Linda (Rick) Thomas of Decatur, David (Sherrie) McDaniel of Quincy, Illinois; and Steven (Nancy) McDaniel of Columbia, Missouri; grandchildren Jason Thomas (Jennifer) Thomas of Decatur; Lindsay (Nick) Raich of Olmsted Falls, Ohio; Shannon (Stanton) Baker of Overland Park, Kansas; Kevin (Alyse) McDaniel of Jenks, Oklahoma; and Kerry McDaniel of Columbia, Missouri. Great grandchildren include Braden, Willa and Vivian Thomas, Madeline and Ryan Raich, Killian McDaniel, and Henry Baker.Lela was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her parents, and her sister, Marjorie Neil.Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church, 901 N. Main St., Decatur, Illinois 62521.
