Lawrence “Larry” E. Weaver, Jr., 98, of Decatur, IL, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024.
He died peacefully at his home in Primrose Retirement Center of Decatur, with his family by
his side.
Larry was born December 14, 1925 in Maroa, IL, the son of Lawrence, Sr. and Cora
Catherine (Trost) Weaver. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, during WWII.
Larry married his beloved wife, Phyllis Sharlene Smith, on February 3, 1952 in Decatur, IL
and remained devoted to her through 67 years of marriage, until her passing on April 14,
2019. He was known for his kindness to others and his pride in his family.
Larry owned and operated Weaver Bros. Van & Storage, Inc. for over 40 years. After
selling the moving company, he continued working at Miles Chevrolet, then as a bailiff for
the Macon County Courts, and finally at Hertz Rent a Car, working (and driving) until 95
years of age. He volunteered as an election judge in Macon County and as an AARP
instructor, teaching a senior driving course. He served as treasurer for Arbor Trails Condo
Association. Larry was active in Sertoma, Kiwanis, and the Veterans Association. He was
a member of Macon Lodge #8 AF & AM, where he had attained 32

degree in both the
Scottish and York rites. Larry was a proud member of First Lutheran Church, Decatur,
where he served on the church council.
Larry is survived by his son, David Lawrence Weaver and wife Anne, of Emerald Hills,
California; daughter, Carol Elaine (Weaver) van Seumeren and husband Henri, of The
Netherlands; grandchildren Megan Weaver, Krista Weaver, Mattheus van Seumeren, and
Theresa Blackman and husband Rupert; great-grandchildren Elliott and Isabella Blackman;
nephew Larry Schultz and wife Annette, of Bloomington; and nephew Randal Smith and
husband Joe Torres, of Taylorville.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sharlene; and sister Charlotte E. Kleine.
A Visitation will be held at First Lutheran Church, 250 West Decatur St., Decatur, at 8:30am
Sunday, July 28, followed by a Memorial service (as part of the church service) at 9:30am.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30pm, in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL.
