Lawrence Everett Mayfield, 93, of Decatur passed away on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 10:00am at the Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home in Decatur with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in the Findlay Cemetery in Findlay, IL. Memorials go to Catholic Charities Meals on Wheels. Lawrence was born on July 19, 1921, in Moultrie County, IL, the son of Earl and Verna Blanche (Marmor) Mayfield. He met Maurine Adeline Coventry in grade school and married her on Nov. 4, 1940 in St. Charles, MO. They enjoyed 74 happy years together. She survives. Lawrence graduated from Findlay High School. He served in WWII in Italy as an Army Sergeant in the Military Police. After the war, he worked at the Chicago Board of Trade while attending school on the GI Bill and graduated from DeVry University in Chicago. He began his career working for WDZ in Tuscola, IL and in Decatur, IL. He moved to Florida and worked briefly for NASA. Later, he worked for WICS in Springfield, IL, General Electric (GE) in Decatur, and retired from Decatur Electronics. Lawrence was a member of the American Legion Post in Findlay, Illinois. His passions in life were electronics, mathematics, and family. Lawrence is survived by two sons; Jerry Lee (Susanne) Mayfield of Decatur, IL and Michael Earl (Diane) Mayfield of Milford, OH. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Troy Daniel Mayfield of Watsonville, CA, Marshall Dax Mayfield of Grimes, IA, Cassandra Marie Mayfield, of Decatur, IL, Justin Tylor (Heidi) Mayfield of Hebron, KY and Amber Marie Mayfield of Reston, VA. Lawrence also leaves one special niece Pamela (Jack) Howell and five great-grandchildren. Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Loran Dean Mayfield. The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Totel and the DMH 4th floor staff for their care of Lawrence. "
