Laverna Wilson

Laverna P. Wilson, 91, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at McKinley Court Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 18, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. until service time. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Elwin United Methodist Church. Laverna was born July 16, 1923, in Mason, IL, the daughter of Guy and Nellie (Hensley) Phillips. She married Roy L. Wilson October 18, 1942. He preceded her in death. Laverna worked at Illinois Bell before retiring to be a homemaker. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church until its closing. She then was a member of Elwin United Methodist Church. Laverna was also an active member of the Roach, John's Hill, and Eisenhower PTAs. She will lovingly be remembered by her daughter Debbie Bandy and husband Ray of Decatur; grandchildren Brooke Ballard and husband Chris of Decatur and Brent Bandy and wife Jessica of Richmond, KY; great grandchildren Renee Ballard and Raegan Ballard of Decatur, and Callan Bandy and Hank Bandy of Richmond, Ky. Laverna was reunited in heaven with her parents, husband, son Ricky, granddaughter Kari, and sister Norma Winter. The family would like to thank the staffs of the Glenwood and McKinley Court for their loving care. "
