Larry Mendenhall

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 12, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, September 11, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Berea Cemetery, rural Mt. Auburn, IL.Memorials may be made in Larrys name to Homeward Bound Pet Shelter in Decatur.Larry was born August 31, 1939, in Mt. Auburn, IL, to Floyd and Eva Mae (Hardisty) Mendenhall. He married Barbara Elder on October 23, 1960. She survives along with three children, Debra Sansom of Decatur, IL, Dawn (John) OFallon of Crystal Lake, IL, and Greg Mendenhall of rural Blue Mound, IL. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Sean OFallon and Paige OFallon, sister Evandra Vonnie Dodson and husband George of Colleyville, TX, and several nieces and nephews.Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a son-in-law.Larry was employed at the Firestone plant in Decatur for 25 years; at Zexel, Inc. for 10 years, and after retirement worked part time as a delivery driver for Miles Chevrolet.Larry looked forward to his afternoon Gin Rummy games with his friends. He loved animals, solving Sudoku puzzles, listening to music, especially blues, and watching Nascar races.The Mendenhall family would like to thank the staff of Fair Havens Christian Home for their kindness and compassionate care during Larrys difficult final days.Larry will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
