Larry E. Howell, 78, of Decatur, left this world Friday, November 30, 2018 to meet his Lord with his family by his side. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 4 at Hillside Bethel Tabernacle. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday December 3 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be in Harristown Cemetery, Harristown, IL. Memorials in Larry’s honor may be made to his family or Hillside Bethel Tabernacle. Larry was born June 10, 1940 in Arthur, IL. He was one of three children born to Karl and Rosemary (Donnels) Howell. Larry retired from Caterpillar after 35 years of service. He also worked at several companies over the years to support his family, often working more than one job at a time. He enjoyed woodworking, building dollhouses for family and spending time with his family. Larry married Sue Lane on August 11, 1977. Together they were foster parents for DCFS until retiring from that work in 2006 to care for other family. Larry attended Hillside Bethel Tabernacle Church for many years with Sue, always doing anything they could to help with the Lord’s work. He is survived by his brother, Charles (Nancy) Howell of San Jose, CA; children, Pat (Anita Rarrieck) Howell of Lake City, Lisa (Danny Lehman) Jinks of La Place, Rick Howell of Oreana, Michael (Kathi) Howell of Cerro Gordo and Darlena Fecho of Decatur; stepchildren, Lorie (Tom) Sitman of Wellford, SC, Suzanne (Danny) Murphey of Decatur, Kevin Lane of Decatur; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Sue; parents; stepfather Jim Harden; brother, Billy; and grandson Christopher. Larry was a wonderful father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who love him. The family would like to express special thanks to Tammy Peer, Karen Reed, Ashley with Synergy Home Care, Susan with DMH Hospice, and his special granddaughter Megan Jinks who spent many selfless hours caring for him.
