Larry W. Bailey, 79, of Cerro Gordo, IL, passed away in the early hours of August 21, 2025, at Piatt County Nursing Home in Monticello.

Larry was born January 5, 1946, in Champaign, the son of Orren and Bernice (Shirley) Bailey.  He married Betty Bowrey in 1993.  Larry proudly served our country in the US Navy, joining after he graduated high school. He was sent to Vietnam where he served from 1964-1968, earning the rank of Signalman 3 rd Class Petty Officer.

After returning home he started driving a truck for several years before joining the Decatur Police Department.  From there, he continued his service as a State Trooper with the Illinois State Police until his retirement.

Larry was a proud Navy veteran and patriot.  After retirement, he enjoyed working outside and carpentry.  He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor.  He enjoyed spending time with his wife, his grandkids, and his favorite dog, Murphy.  He was so proud of his military family as him, his son, and several grandsons that have served or are still serving in the US Navy or US Air Force. He would gladly share his strong opinions with anyone whether you liked it or not.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; son, Tyler (Daniela) Bailey; stepdaughter, Tammy (Chris) Laughlin; stepson, Kevin (Andi) Leslie; and 6 grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Junie.
