Kent Oyler, 79 of Decatur, IL, passed away at 7:23 a.m., on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield IL. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Saturday, October 25, 2014, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials: Wounded Warriors Project, St. Jude's Children's Hospital Kent was born March 18, 1935 , in Taylorville, IL, the son of Dorothy and Monroe Oyler. He married the love of his life, Rita L. (Karch) on March 19, 1955 in Decatur, IL. Kent graduated from Decatur High School in 1953 and attended the University of Illinois. Kent served his country proudly as a United States Marine in Korea. After discharge he worked for Karch Construction Company for many years as an operating engineer with Local 965 and later worked for Miles Chevrolet until retirement. His greatest joy in life was family, his dogs Gus & Nick, duck hunting with his son Mike and good friend Joe Petrucha, wood working, and sailing. Kent also enjoyed years as a Boy Scout leader and Elder at First Christian Church. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Rita and children Mike (Linda) Oyler, Dianna (Bill) Heyer, Teal (Buddy) Walker and Laura Tucker all of Decatur, IL ; Grandchildren: Chad (Gina)Heyer, Decatur, Erica Heyer, Decatur, Torey (Zachary) Zwanzig, Bourbonnais, Alexa Tucker, Boone, N.C., Zachary (Heather) Oyler, Peoria, Joe Oyler, Decatur, Amanda Oyler, Decatur; step grandchildren Tony (Linda) Perry, Annie Perry and Adam Perry; Great grandchildren: Madelynn, Jacob, Kyle, Kalen, Brooke, Ethan, Jordan, Layla; Sister: Linda Ruder, Brother-in-law: Mel (Jeanne) Karch, Nieces and Nephews: Cathy Compare, John Ruder, Todd Ruder, Mindy McGee, Marc Karch and Sharon Herold, Good Friends: Ray (Sue) Stewart, Gene (Becky) Kennedy, Pat Zellman, Larry (Laura) Barnes, Coffee Buddies: Bill Moutray, Joe Petrucha. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Monroe and Dorothy Oyler, Grandson Jason W. Oyler, Son-in -law Craig Kaufman, In-laws, Krekel and Lois Karch, friend Jerry Zellmann, and one of his coffee buddies Fred Rendfeld.
