On June 29th, 2018, Kenneth Owen Schniepp joined his beloved daughter Linda, his infant daughter Sharon, and so many other friends and family members in the eternal presence of Jesus. Ken was born on May 29th, 1938, to William and Ellen (Blair) Schniepp in the little town of Mason, Illinois. In 1957, Kenneth began school at Mount Vernon Bible College in Mount Vernon, Ohio, as part of the inaugural class of the school. Little did he know the love of his life, Polly Chandler, was also part of that class. They fell in love somewhere along Highway 36 in his beautiful Ford car as he would drop Polly off to her parents in Muncie, Indiana, as he traveled home to Mowequa, Illinois, once a month. On June 17th, 1959, Ken and Polly became husband and wife. Polly knew she was marrying the “cream of the crop”. Kenneth was a man who loved Jesus, loved his family, and was a hard worker. And of course he was quite handsome! After graduating from Mount Vernon Bible College in 1960, Ken and Polly settled in the Decatur area. Eventually Ken and his brother Gene founded K & G Trailer Mart in Long Creek, Illinois, based on their mutual appreciation for travel trailers. Ken soon become the sole proprietor, and would spend the next 38 years selling and servicing RVs, campers, and other forms of trailers. Ken was also a proud father, active in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He taught them not only to love his Jesus but also to work hard and love well. He was faithful to his church and was a founding member of Open Hearts Foursquare Church in Monticello. He is survived by his son Jim of Monticello, his daughter Kathy (Larry) of Bement, His son-in-law Randy of Garland, Texas, Grandchildren Aaron (Erica), Mandy (Scott), Nathanael, Chandler, and Katie, and Great-Grandchildren Samuel, Lydia, and Alana. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at 4pm on Saturday, July 7th, at Open Hearts Foursquare Church at 762 East 1700 North Road, Monticello. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a contribution to Open Hearts Foursquare Church in Ken’s honor. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur is assisting the family.
