Dr. Keith Roswell Smith, 62, of Decatur, IL, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Decatur, with visitation Tuesday, December 18, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur and also one hour prior to service time at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at a later date in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Memorials may be made to Decatur Choral Society or Donor’s Choice. Keith was born on March 10, 1956 in Elmhurst, IL. He was the third of four children born to Roswell and Elaine (Johnson) Smith. Keith married Janet Patterson on June 23, 1979, in Decatur, IL. Keith graduated high school in Freeport, IL, went on to earn a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1979 and continued his education, receiving a medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1985. He was board certified in Internal Medicine and has practiced in Decatur for the past 26 years. He was a man that loved God, lived by His example, loved spending time with family, taking care of his patients, singing with OPUS 24, and woodworking. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. Keith was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Janet; sons, Ryan (Kristin) Smith of San Francisco, CA, Matthew (Kaci) Smith of Springfield, IL and Zachary Smith of San Francisco, CA; sisters, Karen (John) Portle of Bloomington, IN and Jannice (Jan) Laird of Fountain Inn, SC; brother, Glenn (Julie) Smith of Freeport, IL; grandchildren, Athena and Roby Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.
