Katherine D. Brown, 68, of Decatur, IL., passed away on April 7, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Staurday, April 20, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Decatur, Illinois. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with the service to immediately follow.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, St. John’s Episcopal Church, or The Five Cities Baroque Foundation and Festival. Additionally, you can honor Kathy by supporting your local schools.
Kathy was born on February 11, 1956, in Rantoul, IL to Charles and Marguerite Elizabeth (Peters) DeMoss. She was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and received her Master’s in Special Education from Illinois State University. She retired from Decatur Public School District #61 where she continued to be a permanent substitute. Most recently, Kathy was teaching at Robertson Charter School.
Kathy is survived by her mother, Marguerite Elizabeth DeMoss; siblings, Julia Wagnaar, Nancy Hatala, and Chuck DeMoss; her loving husband, William; Daughter: Leah Hinkle (Jerald); and grandchildren: Jimmy and Jack.
From her marriage to Bill, Kathy leaves her Sister-in-law Susan Sallas (Michael), nephews, Matt Sallas (Nicole), Adam Sallas (Jennifer) and their children and Cayden and Kalia of Florida. Brother-in-law Steven Brown (Barbara) and their children Jesse (Jake) and Molly (Rory). She also had many other Special nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a fixture in the music programs at both First United Methodist Church and St. John’s Episcopal Church. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Charles DeMoss; sister, Ruth Tjarks; Mother-in-law, Imogene F. Brown and Father-in-law, Ira H. Brown; and brother-in-law, Roger F. Brown.
