K. Michael Loyd
March 27, 1954 — March 4, 2024
Kenneth Michael Loyd, 69, completed his journey here on earth Monday, March 4, 2024, at Decatur Memorial Hospital after a brief but ardent battle with cancer.
Mike was born on March 27, 1954, to Kenneth D. Loyd and Betty (Dalton) Loyd. He married his wife Candy Janus on August 8, 2008 in Monticello, Illinois.
Mike grew up in Cambria, Illinois and graduated from Carterville High School in 1972. He went on to graduate with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Mike had a fulfilling career with Farm Credit Illinois and could be found in the fields each fall cooking for farmer families and rural communities as a part of the “Meals in the Field” program. In 2017, after 33 years he retired as vice president of marketing with plans to travel to every continent and had completed much of his bucket list. Mike especially enjoyed his trip to the Holy Lands, as well as a trip to the United Kingdom with daughter, Lindsey.
Music was a lifelong passion of Mike’s. He was a phenomenal musician, a beacon of creativity, and a soul who brought melody into the lives of others.
Mike was an active member of Lodge Church of God in Lodge, Illinois and served his community of faith with his singing and guitar playing during services. He could often be found bringing music to folks at area nursing homes. Mike leaves a legacy of kindness and faith through his music and devotion to others.
Mike is survived by his wife, Candy; daughter, Lindsey Marie Loyd; stepchildren Carrie (Jamie) Brennan and Tyler (Cyndi) Janus; mother Betty; brother, Steven (Kimberly) Loyd; sister Tamara (Edward) Workman; grandchildren Logan and Finn Brennan, Avery and Ella Janus; niece, Megan Loyd (Zachary) Cram; nephews Clayton and Tristan Workman; and great nephew Silas Cram.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Loyd.
Mike will be honored in a celebration of life service Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Lodge Church of God, 2168 Church St., Lodge, Illinois 61856. Open visitation with family at 1:00 p.m. with eulogy and sharing of memories at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lodge Church of God.
