J.R. Brown

J.R. Brown, 96, of Decatur, died Saturday, December 16, 2017, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 21, at Illini Congregational Church. Visitation will be 4-7 P.M. Wednesday, December 20, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Burial will be in Illini Cemetery, Warrensburg. Memorials may be made to Illini Congregational Church. J.R. was born May 15, 1921, in rural western Macon County, the son of Baxter and Katherine (Schroeder) Brown. He married Margaret L. Buckley July 23, 1940 in rural Decatur. She preceded him in death September 17, 2013. J.R. farmed his whole life, enjoyed fishing and dancing, and he had a remarkable sense of humor. He was a life member and trustee of Illini Congregational Church, a member of Golden K Kiwanis, and the Macon County Farm Bureau. He is survived by his children, Patricia (Tom) Dixon of Decatur, James E. (Shelley) Brown of Warrensburg, Jean (Michael) Carlson of Decatur, and William (Brenda) Brown of Decatur; sister, Betty Black of Pasadena, CA; 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and 1 great great great grandchild.J.R. was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Andrea, and brother Ted.
