"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
-2 Timothy 4:7
Joy L. Miller was born May 16, 1940, in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, the daughter of James and Lula May (Chowning) Shannon. She married Orville J. Miller, Jr. on April 30, 1961, in Champaign, Illinois.
Joy was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Decatur, Illinois, where she was active in the Ladies Guild and often volunteered for church activities. She began her working years as an Operator Supervisor with Bell Telephone. She then devoted many years to lovingly raising her children and caring for others before later returning to work as a banking customer service representative.
Joy's greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with those she cherished, canning and putting up vegetables, tending her flower garden, and playing cards. Her home and heart were marked by faithfulness, hard work, and love.
She is survived by her daughters, Nichole Miller of Decatur, Illinois, and Vicki 'Tori" Tilton and husband Tim of Sorento, Illinois; her son, Sam Miller of Avon Park, Florida; her grandchildren, Jacob, Leah Mattox and husband Christopher, Anna, Hope, Esther, and Zoe Tilton of Sorento, Illinois; her great-granddaughter, McKenzie Marburger of Panama, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; an infant child, Baby Miller; her parents, James and Lula May Shannon; and her siblings, James, Willard, Millie, Velma, and Albert.
Through her faith in Jesus Christ, Joy now celebrates in heaven. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
