Joseph Neil Goretzke, 89, of Warrensburg, IL, formerly of Latham, IL passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at McKinley Court Care Center, Decatur.A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 1 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Private family inurnment will be at Warrensburg Illini Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Latham Methodist Church or Central Christian Church, Decatur, IL.Neil was born September 11, 1926, in Austin Township, the son of Joseph E. and Dora V. (Wilkerson) Goretzke. He lived and farmed in Austin Township for many years, where he was a member of Latham Methodist Church. He served in the Army during the Korean War, and later married Jean V. Spangler on January 19, 1954. During his active farming years he served as Trustee of Latham Volunteer Firemen, and as Land Commissioner for Austin Township. He also was a board member for the Latham Elevator Co-op. He retired in 1991 and moved to the village of Warrensburg, IL, and later Decatur, ILSurviving are his wife, Jean; daughter, Nancy Brechnitz and husband Erik, of Decatur, IL; son, William Goretzke and wife, Linda (Smith) of Simpsonville, SC; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Katelyn Goretzke; three step-children, Rik and Chris Brechnitz, and Beth and husband Brian Utley. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.Neil was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irene Taylor and husband Aubrey, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, one nephew, and several aunts and uncles.
