Joseph Allen Barnes, 87, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 at McKinley Court in Decatur. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Army Funeral Honors. Memorials may be made to American Legion Post 105. Joe was born January 11, 1932, in Decatur, the son of William and Gretha (Gorenflo) Barnes. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the American Legion Post 105. Joe came home and started his own business running Barnes Shell Service and Auto Accessory Supply at the corner of Jasper and Prairie St., in Decatur, for over 25 years, retiring at the age of 47. In 1983, he relaunched Auto Accessory Supply at the corner of Jasper and Wood St. with his sons joining him in the business, and that business is still running today. Joe enjoyed spending winters in Florida, gardening, planting flowers, singing karaoke and fishing. Joe married Betty Joanne Bechtel on December 26, 1950 in Decatur; she preceded him in death in 2008. They were the parents of Stephen Allen (Jeannie) Barnes, David William (Marti) Barnes, all of Decatur, and Cindy Jo (Eric) Brown of Oakley. Joe also leaves behind four grandsons, Stephen Lynn Barnes of Lyon, IL, Craig Stephen Barnes of Greenwood, IN, Chad Michael Barnes of Decatur, IL, and Dillan Austin Brown of Oakley; five great-grandchildren and another arriving in February; and friend Ruth Kilar of Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
