John H. “Jack” Zimmerman, 89, of Niantic, IL, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017.Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 02, 2017 at Resurrection Parish, Illiopolis, IL at 11:30am with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Illiopolis, IL.Memorials may be made to Resurrection Parish. Military rites will be conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.Jack was born March 6, 1928, in Springfield, IL, the son of Albert E. and Mary Elizabeth (Roth) Zimmerman. He married Jane E. Taggart on October 2, 1954 in Springfield, IL.Jack was a member of Resurrection Parish in Illiopolis. He worked for Illinois Bell Telephone as a lineman and repairman for 38 ½ years before retiring. Jack was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a fireman for Niantic Fire Department and served as Assistant Fire Chief and Trustee for 40 years. Jack also served as Supervisor of Eagle Scouts and Scout Leader in Niantic and Harristown; and was a member of American Legion Post 105, VFW Post #10302 in Springfield, Niantic Civic Club, and Telephone Pioneers. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.He is survived by his wife Jane of 63 years; children John “Jack” Jr. (Sharon) Zimmerman of Petoskey, MI, Hugh (Sally) Zimmerman of Springfield; grandchildren Kyle, Jeff (Tami) and Kelsey Zimmerman, Megan (Jeff) Keppler and Jenny (Derek) Watts; 11 great grandchildren; brothers Albert E. Jr. (Millie) Zimmerman of Springfield, Tom (Sue) Zimmerman of Burlington, IA, Fr. David Zimmerman of St. Thomas Catholic Church of Decatur, IL.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray, and sister Mary. "
