John "Red" Martin Wenger, 96, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 11:23 p.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 352 W. Wood, Decatur, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Choir Ministry, Lutheran Hour Ministries, or Dakota Boys Ranch. Red was born October 12, 1915, in Decatur, IL, the son of Ernst and Anna (Keck) Wenger. He married Elva Koenig on April 19, 1941. Red was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was a life long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was on many committees and held various offices. He was an accounting clerk for Wagner Castings Co, retiring after 36 years of service. Red enjoyed golfing, softball, and bowling, and was a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame. Surviving are his wife Elva of Decatur, IL; daughter Janet (Jim) Bramer of Decatur, IL; sons John (Monika) Wenger of Winter Springs, FL, and Steve (Karen) Wenger of Decatur, IL; six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren. Red was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother. The family would like to thank Dr. Fritz for all of his kind and compassionate care through the years. "
