John Wesley Strohl, 83, of Decatur, died Thursday, July 6, 2017, in his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 11, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Monday, July 10, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cerro Gordo Cemetery, Cerro Gordo, with military rites conducted by Macon County Honor Guard. John was born April 29, 1934, the son of John Manzo and Lorene (Curry) Strohl. He married Linda Qualls July 8, 1962, in Decatur. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Bataan (CVL 29) and the U.S.S. Oriskany (CVA-34). After serving in the Navy, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. John worked for Norfolk and Western as a switchman for 11 years. He loved music and dancing, travel and antiques, playing bingo, and spending time with his family. John was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, VFW, and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Decatur; children, Johnnetta (Richard) Gaffron, John Strohl, Meillissia Ingram, and Mary (Becky) Hambrecht, all of Decatur; brother, James Daniel Strohl; sisters-in-law, Judith Riggs of Decatur and Margaret (Paul) Crouch of Greenville, IL; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his little buddy, Lilly.John was preceded in death by his parents.
