John Carl Strickland, 76, of Decatur, died at 1:17 PM December 2, 2011 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral service will be 9:30 AM Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at First Christian Church, 3350 N. Macarthur Rd., Decatur, IL. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 PM Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home with Masonic services to follow. Military graveside services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Beecher City Cemetery, Beecher City, IL. Memorials: First Christian Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Carl was born January 13, 1935 in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of, Jess and Gladys (Reed) Strickland. He married Shelby Beck on May 28, 1955 in Beecher City, IL. Carl served in the US Army and retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co in 1997. He was a member of First Christian Church and Argenta Masonic Lodge #871 AF & AM. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and spending time with family and friends. Carl is survived by his wife Shelby and many dear, nieces and nephews.
