John Peters (93) of Warrensburg passed away on January 16, 2024, at Carriage Crossing Senior Living of Decatur.
Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with Pastor Dennis Hughes officiating. Visitation will be 10:00 AM -12:00 PM on January 19, 2024 at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Illini Cemetery in Warrensburg, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Illini Congregational Church, 5187 N Kenney Road, Warrensburg, IL 62573.
John was born November 8, 1930 in Mulberry, Indiana, the son of Chester and Sadie Combs Peters. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in General Business and proudly served our country in the Air Force earning the rank of Captain. After leaving the Air Force, he worked for the Illinois Power Company for 37-1/2 years as the supervisor of large power billing and accounts payable. He was a Cub Master, a Boy Scout leader, and an active member of the Illini Congregational Church where he served as clerk and deacon. He loved singing and sang in the Illini Church Choir for many years. He was a clerk for the Village of Warrensburg for 8 years. He was an avid gardener all his life. He married Eleanor Jo Weaver on September 20, 1953 in Mulberry, Indiana. They had 4 children.
Surviving are his sons: Gregory and wife Sally of Gifford, Illinois, Steve and wife Lisa of Warrensburg, Illinois, Brian and his wife Pam of Florida, daughter Elaine and Husband Lyle (Clark) of Warrensburg, Illinois, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, and sister Susan McIntosh of Frankfort, Indiana.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Jo, parents Chester and Sadie Peters, and sisters Mary Caroline Bennet, Ruby Jean Army, and JoAnn Delinger.
John was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family of John Peters would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at Carriage Crossing and the 3rd floor staff (3500 ortho unit) at Decatur Memorial Hospital for the loving care they gave to our father.
