Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard.John was born December 10, 1928, in Latham, IL, the son of John T. and Frances (Roberta) Mooney. He married Mary A. Dickmeier in November 1950. She preceded him in death in 2003. He later married Marjorie May in August 2005.John was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He retired from Caterpillar Inc. after 35 years as a Product Quality Engineer. John was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association, American Legion Post 105 and the VFW. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Caterpillar Retirees Club. John enjoyed camping, horses, farming, wood working, antique tractors, and was a life long Cardinal fan.John is survived by his wife Marjorie of Decatur, IL; children Charles (Connie) Mooney, Linda Mooney (Richard Greene), of Decatur, IL; stepchildren David (Carolyn) May of La Grange, IL, Kathleen Hansen of Champaign, IL, Matthew (Judy) May of Forsyth, IL, Jonathan (Marcia) May of St. Petersburg, FL; brothers, Howard (Maxine) of Decatur, IL, Richard (Judy) of DeLeon Springs, FL, Martin (Sue) Mooney of Warrensburg, IL; sister-in-law Patty Mooney of Warrensburg, IL; grandchildren Meghan (Dean) Gregurich and Tom (Megan) Mooney, all of Decatur, IL; 10 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-grandchild. John was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary, brothers Lawrence, William (Bill), and David. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, Decatur Park District Arts & Recreation, or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Fair Havens Christian Home and the 4th floor staff at DMH for the loving care given to John. "
