John W. Mitchell, 84, of Decatur, IL, died Monday, November 17, 2008.Our Country is in mourning because a soldier passed away.Memorial Mass will be 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 21, 2008, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Decatur, IL. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be made to Macon County Honor Guard.John was born July 6, 1924, in Decatur, IL, the son of William and Alberta Mitchell. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in 1942 and released in 1945. John graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1950. He served as Vice President of A&E, an engineering firm in Decatur, IL. John married Angela Edwards in 1951 and had three children, Michele, Bill and Michael.John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Angela; children Michele (Joe) Kearney of Orland Park, IL; Representative Bill Mitchell of Forsyth, IL; Michael Mitchell of Orland Park, IL; grandson Jack Kearney of Orland Park, IL; brother Bob Mitchell of Decatur; granddogs Sophie and Pat Kearney of Orland Park, IL.John was a man of few words, but when he spoke people listened.
