CUSTOM DEATH NOTICEJohn J. Jack Gulick, 86, of Decatur, IL. Died October 24, 2009, in his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday (10-28-2009) at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with visitation on Tuesday (10-27-2009) from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Burial will be at Harristown Cemetery, Harristown, IL. Military rites will be conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home are handling the arrangements.Mr. Gulick was born on September 24, 1923 in Decatur, IL., the son of John B. and Ada H. Gulick.Jack served his country as a tail gunner in the U.S. Army Air Force in the European theatre during WWII. He was a staff sergeant in the 454th bomb group of the 15th Air Force, a unit that saw some of the heaviest casualties of the war. He flew 50 missions - including a famous raid on the Ploiesti oil refinery in Romania. After the missions, he served as a gunnery instructor at Ft. Myers, FL.He married June Nix on August 21, 1949 in Decatur, IL., she died December 30th , 1986. He was a meat cutter for 40 years, and Dept. Manager for the A&P Tea Co. and Red Foxx food stores, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the American Legion Post #263 and Eagles Lodge Aerie #2708.He is survived by his son, John B. Gulick, and wife Vicki of Niantic, IL. and daughter Dawn Gulick Hutchins and husband Steve of Decatur, IL.; grandchildren: Rob Hutchins and wife Becca, Kari Allen and husband Dusty, Justin Gulick and wife Amber, Holly Gulick, and 7 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, mother, father, and three brothers Bud, Burton, and Bob Gulick and sister Louise Roberts.Jack loved to tell jokes and share a laugh. He was an avid golfer and loved playing golf with his dear friend Bob Whiteman. He was known as Grandpa Jack or Uncle Jack to many that will miss him dearly and think of him fondly.
