John D. Ellis, 52, of Decatur, IL, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his wife, children, and loving family. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at Lester Barnett Cemetery in Decatur. Memorials may be made to his children for their education, in care of Decatur Earthmover Credit Union, Mt. Zion, IL. John was born January 24, 1967, in Decatur, son of Jerry Lee and Marjorie (Weaver) Ellis. He married Laurie Renea Hockaday April 14, 1990 in Decatur. John was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and was co-owner of TCR Systems. He loved to play basketball and was a member of Decatur Athletic Club where they named their basketball court Johnny Ellis Noonball Court. John spent countless hours at the gym working out and also enjoyed playing softball. John especially enjoyed watching his kids play their sports, basketball, football, volleyball and softball, never missing a game and was always their biggest fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his Rottweiler, Lola and spending time at the company condo in Cape Coral, Florida. John worked very hard at building their dream home and loved the view from the lake house and enjoyed boating. It was John’s dream to have a 55 Chevy. I hope you’re driving one now. John is survived by his father, Jerry Lee Ellis, of Decatur; wife of 29 years, Laurie; children: J. Bryce Ellis and Carly Alexis Faith Ellis, all of Decatur; brothers: Roger Ellis and wife Suzanne of Indianapolis, IN and Robert Ellis of Decatur; and his faithful Rottweiler, Lola. Also surviving are his loving nieces and nephews, extended family and close friends. John was preceded in death by his mother. "
