John A. Elder, 89, of Decatur, IL, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, IL.Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Berea Cemetery, Mt. Auburn, IL. Memorials may be made to Berea Christian Church or American Red Cross.John was born June 23, 1928 in Mt. Auburn, IL, the son of Earl J. and Fern F. (Dingman) Elder. He married Rosalee M. (Ball) on August 6, 1954 in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2017.John was a Farmer his whole life and worked for Wilbert Vault for several years. He was a member of Berea Christian Church. John was a U.S. Navy veteran.He is survived by his daughter Angela Rhodes; granddaughter Lora Cook; and great grandchildren Jonah and Evelyn DeLeon, all of Brownsburg, IN; sisters Maxine Van Der Voort of Decatur, Margaret Brockelsby of Edinburg, Marjorie (Evan) Morman of Edinburg, Norma Younker of Edinburg, Barbara Mendenhall of Blue Mound.He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Kenneth Elder.
