John Byron Brown, 66, of Boody, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, at Brown Cemetery, Boody, IL, followed by a Memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Zion Chapel United Methodist Church, Boody, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes, Decatur, are assisting the family with the arrangements. John was born December 1, 1949, in Decatur, IL, son of Byron and Nitelle (Dummermuth) Brown. He married Jackie Elaine Ambroise on January 26, 1974 in Boody. She preceded him in death on October 4, 2015. John served his country with the U.S. Army Reserve during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Zion Chapel United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. John farmed with his father in the Boody area then later owned and operated John Brown Trucking. He enjoyed spending time with his family in their many activities and was a Chicago Blackhawks fan. Surviving are his children: Alicia (Sean) Rew of Danville, IL, Amy (Branden Henady) Brown of Boody, IL, Teresa (Chris) Sims of Bethany, IL, Laurie (Butch) Burnett of Forsyth, IL, and Bert Sturgis II of Decatur, IL; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sisters: Norma (Stan) Ryan of Mt. Auburn, IL, Marilyn (Dale) Brix of Assumption, IL, Diane (Rich) Lehn of Warrensburg, IL, Denise (Mark) Hagele of Springfield, IL, and Bev (Gene) Bollhorst of Taylorville, IL. John was preceded in death by his parents and wife Jackie. John’s family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Esparaz, Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, and DMH Hospice for their many weeks of caring for John during his illness. "
