M. Joan Myers, age 93, passed away on June 18, 2026. She was at home in Columbia, MO, surrounded by family, at the time of her passing. Joan had moved to Columbia in 2024 to be close to her son’s family after spending the rest of her life in central Illinois.

She was born to Mervin and Naomi Hiser and raised on the family farm near Oakley, IL. After graduating from high school in Cerro Gordo she worked for a few years at A.E. Staley in Decatur before getting married to Richard C. Myers in 1953. They farmed together for over four decades near Blue Mound, IL, and enjoyed 61 years of marriage before his death in 2014. A favorite pastime for them was Model T touring with various Model T organizations. They also enjoyed many other trips in retirement and visiting family and friends. Joan considered herself a child of God and always tried to follow his teachings. She was a longtime member at Blue Mound United Methodist Church, chairing various church committees, and most recently was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She volunteered for over 30 years with St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary in Decatur. Joan was known as a great friend to many, a gracious hostess, and devoted to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Margie Zimmerman and Janet Eads, and by her granddaughter Kimberly Joanne Mallers. She is survived by children Linda (husband Rick) Gilmore, DiAnne Myers, and Robert (wife Amy) Myers, along with five grandchildren, Justin Mallers, Paul (wife Jenny) Mallers, Scott Mallers (partner Madelin Hunsberger), Chelsea Myers (husband Josh Wright), Haley Myers (partner Russell Durham), one great-grandchild, Sammy Mallers, her sister Dorothy Albert, and many nieces and nephews.
