Joan D. “Annie” Willis, age 96, of Decatur, IL, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Imboden Creek Gardens surrounded by her children. She was born July 25, 1928, in rural Macoupin County, IL, the daughter of Amal L. and Bessie L. (Hare) Dunn.
She married Floyd E. Turner August 3, 1946, and he preceded her in death in January of 1989. Five children were born of this union.
She married James R. “Jim” Willis on December 12, 1993, and he preceded her in death in December of 2014.
Annie and Floyd loved going mushroom hunting in Michigan in the spring with various siblings and their spouses. After they both retired, they spent several months each winter in their RV along the Rio Grande, Texas, with Vonnie & Johnnie Turner, and other siblings and friends.
After Annie and Jim were married, they continued these traditions.
Annie loved collecting Hummels and Maud Humphry figurines, as well as collectible glassware. She most enjoyed getting together with her kids and grandkids.
She is survived by her children: Lynette Tate (Roger), Leon Turner (Rita), Cheryl Peters, Kathy Allen, and Tony Turner (Sherry); as well as her grandchildren: Angela Reish, Amy Skelton (Greg), Kelly Kuhn (Zach), Jason Turner, Melissa Fasnacht (Brent), Laura Click (Gary), Keith Tate, Megan Turner (Craig Karnes), Karen Tate, Chad Turner (Abby), Jessica Villa (Josh), and Shelby Allen; as well as her 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Annie is also survived by two brothers, Frank Dunn (Judy) and Jay Dunn (Cheryl); a sister-in-law Barb Dunn; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, brothers Harold, Donnie, Brad, and a brother Keith in infancy, as well as sisters Barbara and Vonnie.
Annie graduated two years early as valedictorian of her high school class in Modesto, IL. She moved to Decatur with her sister, Vonnie, to find work and that is where she met Floyd, who was the brother of her sister’s boyfriend. The two sisters married the two brothers, and the families have been extremely close. The two families were like one big family, going on vacations and spending holidays together.
Annie was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:30 AM, Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Make a Wish Foundation, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
