Jerry L. Songer, 74, of Cerro Gordo, IL, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, with his family by his side. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Croninger Cemetery, Cisco, IL, with military rites by the Macon County Honor Guard. Jerry was born March 9, 1938, in Newton, IL, the son of Lloyd and Doris (Fasnacht) Songer. He married Betty Atkins September 5, 1959, in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2012. Jerry previously worked as a dock supervisor for I.B.C. for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 117. Jerry was a skilled guitarist, loved fishing, and was an avid Cub and Illini fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved them dearly. Surviving are his sons Steve (Cheryl) Songer and Mike (Becky) Songer, all of Cerro Gordo; daughters Teresa (Steve) Fraysure of Milmine, IL, Julie Cope of Merritt Island, FL, and Jill (Troy) Dodson of Cerro Gordo; grandchildren Matthew Fraysure, Jacob Songer, Alex Songer, Maddison Handley, Lanie Dodson, Mitchell Dodson, Emma Fraysure, Mia Dodson, and Jaxon Cope; great-granddaughter Isabella Fraysure; brother Jack (Luz) Songer of Chula Vista, CA; sisters Susan Coleman of Decatur, IL; Cindy Dell of Dalton City, IL and Robyn Bodine of Decatur, IL. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, and sister Jeannie. "
