December 16, 1946 — June 2, 2017

Jerry W. Shaffer, 70, of Cerro Gordo, died Friday, June 2, 2017, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Cerro Gordo, with visitation at 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Jerry’s grandchildren.Jerry was born December 16, 1946, the son of Roy and Lota O. (Born) Shaffer. He was a graduate of Cerro Gordo High School, where he played football for the Broncos and was known as “Mama Bear.” Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran, and served during the Vietnam War. He worked as a mechanic, and loved hot rods. Jerry had a 1967 Camaro and a 1963 Nova. He enjoyed fishing and camping and spending time with his family at the Mississippi River. Jerry also liked watching Westerns, art and drawing, and country music. He was a member of the DAV. He is survived by his son, Josh (Andrea) Shaffer and daughter, Tracey Shaffer, all of Cerro Gordo; grandchildren, Natasia Shaffer, Andrea Shaffer, Krishna Shaffer, Zoey Shaffer, and Ramie Shaffer; step grandchildren, Samantha Cullison and Tyler Cullison; brothers, Donald Shaffer and Richard (Vicki) Shaffer; several nieces and nephews.Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sons Jeremy and Jonathon Shaffer, and sister Phyllis Hall. "
