Jeffrey R. Long, 44, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015, in Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, at First Christian Church, Decatur. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery, Decatur.Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.Jeffrey was born on May 4, 1971, in Decatur, the son of Roger W. and Patricia (Carlock) Long. His father preceded him in death in 1994.Jeff was a member of First Christian Church. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1989, Richland Community College in 1991, and Millikin University in 1993. He was an auxiliary police officer for the City of Decatur and attended University of Illinois Police Training Institute. Captain Long worked for Securitas, a security company for Ameren Illinois. In recognition of outstanding service to his clients, he received the Supervisor Of The Year 2010 award.Jeff volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Decatur Celebration, coached YMCA basketball, worked with Sangamon Valley Youth Baseball and JFL, and formerly worked on Knights of Columbus projects. Surviving are his mother Patricia Glasscock and step-father Loren of Oreana, IL; sisters: Cathy Rentschler and husband Pat of Harristown, IL, Susan Boaz and husband Randy of Decatur, IL, Laurie Dale and husband Lynn of Elwin, IL; nephews: Chad Rentschler, Dan Rentschler, Lukas Dale; niece: Leslie Dale; and beloved cat Emma.The family wishes to give special thanks to the nurses of DMH 4th floor, and to critical care nurse Dan at Barnes Jewish Hospital for the loving care given to Jeff.His infectious smile and loving spirit will be greatly missed. "
