Jean V. Spangler Goretzke passed away at her residence at Primrose Retirement Community in Decatur. According to her wishes, there will not be a funeral. A private, prayerful time will be held at a later date. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jean was born July 11, 1930 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Mabel Franklin Spangler and Elmer Spangler. The family farmed in Austin Township, Latham, IL with two daughters and Jean. After the death of Elmer, Mabel and her children moved to Decatur. Jean graduated from Decatur High School in 1948 and Millikin University in 1952. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She married J. Neil Goretzke on January 19, 1954. She and her husband lived on a farm near Latham, IL until retirement, then they moved to the village of Warrensburg, and later to Decatur. During her active years she substitute taught and taught kindergarten for Warrensburg, Latham, and Decatur schools. She also enjoyed working in sales at Hickory Point Mall. She was a lifetime member of Central Christian Church, Decatur.
Surviving are her son Bill (wife Linda) Goretzke of Simpsonville, SC; her son-in-law Erik Brechnitz of Marco Island, FL; two grandchildren, Nicholas (wife Ashton) Goretzke and Katelyn (husband David) Kent; one great-granddaughter Mills; 1 great-grandson Hudson; and also extended families.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her daughter Nancy Brechnitz, two sisters, one sister-in-law, three brothers-in-law, three nephews, and one niece.
