Jane Carolyn Gary Minnis, 73, of Decatur, IL, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 8 P.M., Friday, June 22, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Jane was born October 24, 1938, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Dr. Edward Thomas and Dorothy (Collins) Gary, but was raised from age 9 on in Coral Gables, FL. She married Wallace Minnis on June 11, 1960 in Lakeland, FL. Jane was a graduate of Coral Gables High School and attended Florida Southern College for 2 years. She was a stewardess for Eastern Airlines in 1959 and 1960. Jane was an especially devoted mother. She was a housewife and mother most of her married life but had part time jobs at Federal Kemper Insurance, Big Save in Chicago, and the Legacy. Jane was active in Cub Scouts as a den mother and worked for the Republican National Committee. Her main interest was her knowledge of and continual learning about jewelry. Jane was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She is survived by her husband Wallace, of 52 years; children Gary Scott (Karen) Minnis and Craig Merritt (Marianne) Minnis; grandchildren Tyler Sichelski, Tara (Ryan) Kenny, Michael Minnis, Mark Minnis, Robbie Minnis, and Danielle Minnis; sister-in-law Mary Lou Duncan. The family would like to give special thanks to Jane's good friend and caregiver, Dianne Grimm and special pet poodle, Coalee, whom she called the "sweetest little doggie in the whole wide world". The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at McKinley Court and St. Mary's ICU staff for the loving care given to Jane. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association or American Heart Association. "
