Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 20, at the Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, October 19, at the church. Burial will be at the Cerro Gordo Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Cerro Gordo American Legion Honor Guard. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is handling the arrangements.Memorials: for assistance to the hearing impaired at S.A.I.L. - Deaf Services of Decatur.James was born January 3, 1921, at his home. He was the youngest child of James and Millie Sheets. He married Dorothy Peck on December 29, 1942. James worked at the Decatur Signal Depot for 17 years, the Macon County Farm Service as a petroleum driver for 22 years, and was a life-long farmer on his familys homestead, which has been in the family since 1845. He was a past worthy patron and 58 year member of the Cerro Gordo Order of the Eastern Star #173, a 57 year member of the Odd Fellows IOFF #300, a 63 year member of American Legion Post #117, a 59 year member of the Masonic Lodge #600, a former leader of the Bois d Arc 4-H Club, a WWII army veteran, and a member of the Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church.James is survived by his children: Mary Louise Lawyer (Roger) of Oakley; Judith Gibbs (Dennis) of Decatur; Laurel Morr (Robert) of Oakley; Dawn Jackson (Greg) of Forsyth; and son-in-law Marc Wren of Wadsworth. Grandchildren: James D. Sheets (Connie), Jodi Pierceall (Eric), Danaka Bulthuis (Ken), Ami Lawyer, Tim Lawyer (Lynn), Jeff Lawyer, Stacy Downing (Mike), Heather Woodside (Dave), Carrie Reynolds (Matt), Daniel Wickline, Robert M. Morr (Melissa), Trever Morr, Kirsten Morr, Nicholas Jackson, Austin Jackson, and Kira Jackson. Step-Grandchildren: Kelly Elfering (Joel), Peter Wren (Danielle), Kelly Johnson (Steve), and Aimee Gregg (Steve). Great-grandchildren: Faythe Sheets, Jimmy Sheets, Emily Pierceall, Thomas Pierceall, Ethan Bulthuis, Dorie Bulthuis, Breena Bulthuis, Cameron Downing, Connor Woodside, Darius Woodside, and Casen Reynolds. Step-great-grandchildren: Brittany Pierceall, Brandy Pierceall, Tess Elfering, Bryce Wren, Trevor Wren, Zach Wren, Jerry Wren, Abigail Johnson, Lucy Woodside, and Madison Reynolds. Many nieces, nephews and brother-in-law Bob Morr.James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Johnnie, his sister Edith, his loving wife of 58 years Dorothy, his beloved son and daughter James I. Sheets and Lynnette Wren.The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. William H. Shackelford and his staff and Dr. Stephen Jennison and Claire for their excellent care and compassion.James was a very loving and dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He rarely missed a program or event for church, 4-H, or school, even though he barely heard a note or word. We cannot express how deeply he is loved and how much he will be missed. "
