James W. “Jim” Pownall, 80, of Decatur, IL, passed away Monday, August 26, 2019, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 30, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or Millikin University (Pownall Family Cancer Education and Awareness Fund). Jim was born April 7, 1939, in Decatur, son of William Lockhart and Francis Jane (McEvoy) Pownall. He married Sylvia Jane Holderread October 29, 1960, in Decatur. Jim was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He attended Lake Forest College and Millikin University. Jim owned and operated Monticello Bus Service, Inc. He was a member of Rotary Club in Monticello, IL, USA Softball of Illinois, where he served as Vice President on the board. Jim was also a member of Illinois ASA Hall of Fame and officiated basketball and football games in IHSA and NCAA. Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane; daughter, Mary Lynn Arnold and husband Rick of Decatur; son, Pat Pownall and wife Tina of Morton; grandchildren, J.D. Arnold of Decatur and Rikki Schiff and husband Dan of Chicago; great-grandchild, Devin Schiff of Chicago; and sister, Lyn Mathis of Copper Hill, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents. "
