James Edward Peveler, 72, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 11 am until time of the funeral service at 12 Noon, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur with funeral service to follow at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Memorials in James’ honor may be made to Humane Society of Decatur, Macon County Animal Control and Care Center, or to the
American Cancer Society.
James was born on January 25, 1954 in Decatur, IL , the son of James Henry and Betty (Slater) Peveler. He married Sharon Chambers and they later divorced.
James served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a roofer for most of his career. He played pool for the APA Pool League, liked to fish, and was an avid NASCAR fan.
James is survived by his daughters Sierra Peveler of Decatur and Ashley Douglas of Colorado; 2 stepchildren, Robin O’Laughlin and Tracy Peveler, both of Decatur; 8 granddaughters, Seleste, Kaylie, Kierra, Belen, Addie, Crystal, Samantha, and Jackie; 3 grandsons, Gage, Dayton, and Bryan; 2 sisters, Marsha of Decatur and Janet of Kentucky; his former companion Kimberly Douglas of Colorado; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded by his parents; a son Chad Peveler; and a stepson David Peveler.
