James Joseph Marty, 66, Decatur, IL, died at 7:42 p.m., Thursday, August 22, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jim was born August 2, 1947, in Pana, IL. He was raised in Ramsey, IL, the son of George A. and Wilhelmina (Temmen) Marty. He married Pam Schaub on August 8, 1971, in Vandalia, IL. Jim and Pam recently celebrated 42 years of love and marriage. Jim, a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, was a loving and devoted husband and an affectionate father and grandfather who prided himself on his family's accomplishments, big and small. Jim always put his family first. Jim also loved music, playing the acoustic guitar, singing, and golfing. Jim was a member of the Ramsey High School class of 1965. After graduating from Southern Illinois University in 1971 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Jim began his career with Blank and Wesselink and Associates. In August 1979, Jim joined the consulting firm of Warren and Van Praag, later becoming one of the firm's owners. The company was later acquired by URS Corporation, a global consulting and engineering firm, where Jim was a senior project manager, a dedicated employee, and a mentor to many. He was the project manager for the Keystone Build-Out Project which received the 2007 American Council of Engineering Companies' Illinois Honor Award and the National Honor Award for Engineering Excellence. Jim considered the Keystone Build-Out Project "the job of a lifetime." Jim was a registered professional engineer, a licensed land surveyor, and a member of Prutz Engineers' Society. Jim is survived by his wife Pam; son Michael J. Marty and wife Rachel of Long Mont, CO; daughter Jill S. Fornear and husband Adam of Argenta, IL; grandchildren Beatrix and Piper Fornear; sisters Donna (Bud) Rakers of Ramsey, IL: Carol (Randy) Kistler of Olney, IL: Mary Lou (Carle) Howell of Richardson, TX; brother Steve (Joanne) Marty of Atlanta, GA. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association.
