James William Lowery, 79, of Dalton City, IL, died 6:55 A.M., Friday, October 2, 2009, at his residence.Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 5, 2009, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation 5 to 8 P.M., Sunday, October 4, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mt. Zion, IL. Memorials may be made to Westervelt Christian Church or Mt. Zion Christian Church or to the Lowery family.James was born October 1, 1930, in East Prairie, Missouri, the son of William and Viola (Berry) Lowery. He married Betty J. Rutherford on June 25, 1950 in their home in Dalton City.James worked at A.E. Staley for 37 years, retiring in 1987. He also will be remembered for his 49 years of dedicated service to Christian Churches in the area. The first church in his ministry was Dalton City Christian Church, followed by Harristown Christian Church, Lovington Christian Church, Antioch Christian Church, Little Flock Baptist Church and most recently at Westervelt Christian Church. He had also served as a funeral assistant with Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. James loved fishing on his boat in Florida, camping, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Betty of Dalton City, IL; mother Viola Lowery of Malden, MO; daughter Joan (Tony) Walsh of Harristown, IL, Jane (Steve ) Woods of Mt. Zion, IL; son Jim (companion Malora) Lowery of Mt. Zion, IL; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sisters Alice (Lloyd) Hankins of Malden, MO, Frankie (John) Dell of Malden, MO; brothers Winslow (Thelma) Lowery of St. Louis, MO, Bill (Ruthie) Lowery of AR, Bobby (Mae) Lowery of St. Louis, MO, Ronny (Nancy) Lowery of St. Louis, MO; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.He was preceded in death by his father William.Condolences may be left to the family at www.brintlingerandearl.com.
