James D. Garvey, 84, of Cerro Gordo, IL., passed away on Saturday (09-25-2010) at 3:27 P.M. in Fair Havens Christian Home Decatur, IL. and now is in his eternal home in heaven.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday (09-30-2010) at La Place Church of the Brethren, La Place, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday (09-29-2010) from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.. at Brintlinger and Earl Cerro Gordo Funeral Home. Burial will be at La Place Cemetery, La Place, IL. Brintlinger and Earl Cerro Gordo Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Memorials may be made to: Fair Havens Christian Home or La Place Church of the Brethren.James was born on January 31, 1926 in Leeton, MO., the son of Samual Arthur Garvey and Maude (Wagner) Garvey. He married Rosemary M. Traxler on August 11, 1951 in La Place, IL. She preceded him in death on May 22, 2004.James graduated from McPherson College in McPherson, KS in 1950, and was a farmer all of his life.He was a member of La Place Church of the Brethren, Treasurer of the Cerro Gordo School Board and Trustee of La Place Cemetery. He sold Christmas trees at Goldblatts, shelled corn and was an avid bowler.James is survived by his four daughters: Dale Garvey and friend Harold Pritchett of Fremont, CA., Sandy Primm and husband George of Bolingbrook, IL., Tracy Mogged and husband Dan of Cerro Gordo, IL., and Debbie Leibrock and husband Martin of Oswego, IL.; grandchildren: Joshua, Joel, Niki, and Danielle Primm, Justin McRae and wife Sara, Camille McRae, Calvin, Evan, and Owen Leibrock.; brothers and sisters: Maurice Garvey of Florissant, MO., Rowena Nicholson and husband Vernon of Wichita, Kansas, Leon Neher and wife Lu of Quinter, Kansas, Colleen Haldeman and husband Barry of Manheim, PA, and Galen Neher of Denver, CO.and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rosemary, three brothers: Floyd, John, and Don Garvey and three sisters: Kathryn Borgman, Elizabeth Neher, and Emily Kampmeier.
