A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Moundford Free Methodist Church, Decatur. Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, is assisting the family with the arrangements.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Moundford Free Methodist Church, the Salvation Army, or the American Cancer Society.Jack was born on February 17, 1923, in Decatur, IL, the son of Eugene and Blanche Strong. He married Kathryn Covington in July of 1942. Jack graduated from Decatur High School. He was a U.S. veteran serving in the Army during WWII. He worked at the Signal Depot until 1962, then for the U.S. Government at Ft. Monmouth, N.J. Jack retired from the University of Illinois and also worked at WXFM and Trinity Broadcasting Network. He was a member of Moundford Free Methodist Church.Jack was an avid amateur HAM radio operator affiliated with the Cenois Amateur Radio Club. He enjoyed camping, music, computers, and working with his family as part of the Gary Strong Marionettes. Jack is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kathryn of Decatur, IL; sons Gary Strong of Decatur, IL, David (Enid) Strong of Conifer, CO; granddaughters Lori (Chris) Torstrup of Freeland, PA, Diane (Todd) Knepler of Rome, GA; great-granddaughters Ariel Torstrup, Ivy Torstrup, Tayrn Strong; great-grandson Bryce Torstrup; and many cousins.Jack was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
