Jack Kearney Atchison, 89, of Forsyth, IL, passed away Monday (Jan. 12, 2015). Jack was born July 13, 1925 in rural Lovington, IL, the son of Hal and Grace Kearney Atchison. After graduating from Decatur High School in 1943, he served as a navigator in the United States Army Air Corps. On November 18, 1945, Jack married Betty L. Schneider. Jack's early career was spent farming in Forsyth, IL. He then worked as a supervisor at Firestone until he retired in 1985. He was devoted to his family and loved vacationing with them in Colorado, Wyoming, Baraboo, WI, and later in St. Petersburg Beach, FL. One of Jack's favorite days of the year was eating oyster stew while celebrating on Christmas Eve with his family. He also enjoyed spending time in rural Arthur. Jack loved eating breakfast on Sunday mornings at Steak-n-Shake with his friends, Don and Betty McCool. A piece of Jack's heart slipped into heaven 8 ½ years ago with the passing of his beloved grandson, Chris Orr. Jack is survived by his wife, Betty, of 69 years; daughter, Linda Orr (Ed); daughter, Cindy Chamberlain (John); grandchildren, Diane Orr, Travis Orr (Michele Coziahr), and Aimee Smith (Eric); step-grandchildren, Cory Chamberlain (Stacey) and Christy Chamberlain; great-grandchildren, Taylor Orr, Jack Orr, Keagen Smith, Avery Smith, and Grant Smith; step-great grandchildren, Caden Chamberlain, Caleb Chamberlain, and Carter Chamberlain. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William, George, and Tom; and grandson, Christopher M. Orr. Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Friday, January 16, 2015 at Forsyth Baptist Church, Forsyth, with Pastor Adam Powers, officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorial donations may be made to Macon County Honor Guard. "
